The Drowsy Chaperone

September 27 - October 6, 2024

About the Show:
Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

The theater lights dim as a fictitious 1928 musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, comes to life, with two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone. Put all together, you have the ingredients for hilariously toe-tapping evening of madcap delight.

Meet the Team

  • Mea Cleary (Ensemble/Understudy Janet/Dance Captain)

Mea is a senior this year and has consistently performed in musicals at her high school, Hoosick Falls Central. A few of her favorite roles include Marian Paroo in The Music Man, Anna in Frozen, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Janet VanDegraaf in The Drowsy Chaperone, and Nala in The Lion King. Mea spent last summer participating in Proctors Collaborative School of the Arts production of The Prom as Angie Dickinson.  Mea takes any opportunity to perform, whether that be dance at Berkshire Dance Theater, choir, or band. Mea has also recently made her Carnegie Hall debut this April! Mea would like to thank her parents, her little sister, her friends, and her drama club director for their unconditional support!

  • Matt DeMarco (Man In Chair)

Matt is beyond thrilled to be playing another dream role on the Fort Salem stage. He first became obsessed with this show over a decade ago when a close friend played Man in Chair in a college production and secretly based his performance on Matt. Hi, Mark. You jerk. Matt most recently appeared in FST’s 2023 season in Footloose as the reprehensible Coach Dunbar, and before that as Linus-another dream role-in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Past favorite roles include King Sextimus in Once Upon a Mattress and Moon in The Real Inspector Hound. Matt would like to thank his absurdly talented cast mates and the crew for making this dream a reality. He’d also like to thank his friends and family for their support, and his coworkers for not demonizing him too much for having such odd availability during this entire process. Matt wouldn’t be here without the unending love and support, as well as feedback and free therapy from Anna and Kyra, or the ethereally lovely Kathy O for making him first fall in love with theater so many years ago. One final thank you to the Wests, who have created a wonderful, inspiring, inclusive venue for live theater, which feels like Matt’s second home.
