The Singing Anchors
Anchors Away!
2019 Emmy Award winners Jerry Gretzinger and Benita Zahn of Newschannel 13 have been performing together since 2009 as The Singing Anchors -- folks who make their living anchoring and reporting the news, and enjoy and excel at singing and performing.
WNYT news anchor Benita Zahn started singing at Washington County’s Fort Salem Theater in the summer of 2007. In November, 2009, she brought along her Channel 13 colleague Jessica Layton and CBS6 anchor Jerry Gretzinger, inviting them to join her in Salem for an evening of song. The trio clicked, and, musical directed and accompanied by Fort Salem’s artistic director Jay Kerr, The Singing Anchors easily become the Capital Region’s most requested musical attraction. Jessica has since left the Albany area, but Jerry and Benita are still out there delighting audiences.
They create and debut their shows at Fort Salem Theater and perform on the road at venues throughout the Capital Region, including MacHaydn Theatre, Saratoga’s First Night, the Clifton Park Hilton Garden Inn, and Vapor at the Racino. They are repeat guests at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon and Guilderland Library performance series, and have headlined at benefits for Our Brother’s Keeper, St. Mary’s School-Hoosick Falls, and the Schenectady ARC.
Benita and Jerry, who now co-anchor Channel 13’s 4 and 4:30 PM news programs, do a sixty-minute show entitled, Side by Side. For booking information, call producer Jay Kerr at 212-582-5118 or email Jay@JayKerr.com today!
